CCAT verbal questions
Word meaning under time: antonyms, analogies, and sentences with a word missing.
Which word is most nearly the OPPOSITE of FRUGAL?
What this type asks
Criteria’s own example of a verbal item is an opposite-word question, and that is the shape of most of this section: a word, five choices, and eighteen seconds to know which one is its opposite, its closest match, or the one that completes a sentence. Nothing here needs a large vocabulary so much as a fast one — the words are ordinary, the trap is the near-miss option that is related but not opposite.
Now do it with the clock running.
50 questions in 15 minutes — 18 seconds each, which is the part no amount of untimed practice prepares you for.

Frequently asked
- How many verbal questions are on the CCAT?
- Criteria Corp does not publish a breakdown by question type — only that the test is 50 questions in 15 minutes and that it includes this type. Any site that gives you an exact count for this section has made it up. The full-length test on this site deals the types evenly for that reason.
- Is this section timed?
- Not on this page. These sets are for learning the type — each answer comes with an explanation straight away. When you want the clock, the full-length test runs at 18 seconds a question.
- Are these real questions from the test?
- No. Every question here is original, written to the published format. The real item banks are confidential and nobody outside the publisher has them.
Sources
Every figure on this page comes from one of the documents below, with the date it was read. Requirements change; if a source has moved on since that date, the source is right and this page is out of date.
