Civil service exam practice test
“Civil service exam” is not one test. Each jurisdiction names its own, and for police and public-safety hiring across much of the country the test candidates actually sit is the one run at National Testing Network centres. The reading, language and judgment questions below are the parts of it that can be practised in writing — which is most of the written portion.
Civil service exam practice test
30 questions. 25 minutes.
That is 50 seconds a question. The clock starts when you press the button and submits the test when it runs out. You will not be told whether an answer was right until the end — that is the point of a timed run.

Frequently asked
- Is the civil service exam the same everywhere?
- No. The term covers whatever written test a jurisdiction uses for public-sector hiring, and the content differs by role and by employer. What is common across police and public-safety versions is the shape practised here: reading closely, writing correctly, and choosing sensibly between courses of action.
- What should I check before I practise?
- The announcement for the job you are applying to. It names the test, the vendor and the date, and often links the vendor’s own candidate material. Practising the right shape matters more than practising more.
- Are these real exam questions?
- No. Every question on this site is original, written to the published format rather than copied from it. Nobody publishing real items would be doing so lawfully.

Untimed sets with the explanation right after each answer — where the timed run tells you what is going wrong, these are where you fix it.
